"For the first time in the University’s history, this is a building explicitly designed for everyone – for concerts, for community and school partnerships, for pathbreaking research and inspiring teaching, or simply for a cup of coffee."

Professor William Whyte, Senior Responsible Owner for the project

The story so far

The University has been planning a new home for the humanities for more than a decade. It has been made possible by a generous £175 million gift from Stephen. A Schwarzman, chairman, CEO, and co-founder of Blackstone, the world’s largest alternative investment firm.
Following extensive, invaluable consultation with residents and local stakeholder groups, the Centre received planning approval in March 2022 and will be completed in 2025.
It has been designed by the award-winning firm Hopkins Architects.

Construction on the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter (ROQ) site between Walton Street and Woodstock Road is now underway. The work is being overseen by Laing O’Rourke.
